Don’t Tweet Angry!

The age of social networking has given all of us the extra opportunity we needed to really stick our foot in our collective mouths. Before the age of Facebook and Twitter, we only met with a limited number of people in our daily lives. A person would run into say, maybe 50 people of any importance in their personal social circles. That’s not near enough! In order to really land a reputation-crushing blow, you’d have to at least double that number, if not triple.

But now in this Utopian post-Twitter world, 140 characters can accomplish what an entire day could only dream of doing. Redskins’ rookie Robert Henson discovered exactly how damaging Twitter can be to a person’s reputation. Two thoughtless tweets have landed him on Redskins’ fans’ blacklist.

There were two objectionable tweets, both of which insulted fans. The first one labeled them as “fake half hearted Skins fan[s]” and “dim wits.” The second added insult to injury, saying “The question is who are you to say you know what’s best for the team and you work 9 to 5 at Mcdonalds.” Ouch.

The obvious lack of judgment was followed up by a more tempered Twitter (Twitter) apology, and later, a formal apology made to the media. However, it now seems that Henson can’t take the Twitter heat he brought upon himself, as he’s buckled under the backlash and deleted his account. His former profile @RedskinsLB58 is now barren. Just a friendly reminder: Think before you tweet!
