This video clip shows a pretty violent check, in which the checked player is actually thrown through the glass surrounding the rink. The guy who hit him did absolutely nothing to slow himself down, even though half the speed he hit this guy with would have been enough to stop him without the whole “looking like a jerk” thing.

After going through the glass, the guy falls on his knees and then tries to get up. Poor guy just weakly falls back onto the ice.
