It’s Gettin’ Thick In Here

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Will Tiger ever recover from the media storm that has hit him so ferociously?

The problem here with good ol’ Tiger is that he had placed himself on a virtuous pedestal. He always had charities and good deeds coming from every angle. When you do that, you set yourself up for a hard fall. That is, if you happen to be sneaking around doing activities that are surely to get you in the public eye  – and not in the good way.

Such as it went with Tiger.

He really had it all. Amazing talents that led to an amazing career, a shining reputation that he (seemed) to use for good, and a beautiful wife and family – not to mention plenty of cash from tournaments and hefty endorsements. And he traded it all to have, not one, not two, but 10 affairs.

Seriously, he had to know that kind of thing would get  out eventually. Does he watch the tabloids at all? They’re just waiting to get their hands on something as juicy as this. The instant Tiger hit that fire hydrant, the media was on it. We’ve all seen this sort of thing before – no attempts to hide the truth or cover up inconvenient facts was going to get by the public. Nice try Tiger.

Since the story of Tiger’s accident hit the front pages it all just kept getting better and better over the week. First we heard about one affair – the one that started the whole fight that night – and we all weren’t too surprised (even if it was Tiger Woods we were talking about). Then another mistress came out of the woodwork.

That raised a few eyebrows.

Then another, and another! I don’t think my eyebrows can get any higher!

The count seems to finally have settled at 10 different mistresses, all who didn’t know about the others. Where does the man find the time?

However, in the end, Tiger couldn’t balance it all. I mean, his wife had to get suspicious eventually right?  (Especially when you’re practically texting your mistress right in front of her) In a classic blunder, Tiger left some amazingly trackable pieces of evidence leading right to his affairs. We’re all familiar now with him asking Jaimee Grubbs to remove her name, since he thought his wife would be calling her. Nice.

Of course she promptly sold him down the river by selling that sweet voice mail clip.

Don’t forget the dozens of text messages sent to the first woman accused of sleeping with Tiger,  Rachel Uchitel. Tsk tsk, Tiger. You really did it to yourself there. Don’t you know that text messages are easily saved for later viewing? Something tells me that if you don’t want people knowing certain information, don’t send said info in a text message.

Not smart.

There you have it. For a little (or a lot) extra nookie on the side, Tiger risked it all. Word has it that Gatorade has dumped his Tiger Focus product. Gatorade claims that they had already planned to discontinue that line, but I personally find the timing to be suspicious.

However, the latest I heard, Tiger’s wife Elin Nordegren does not have plans to divorce him, stating that she came from a divorced home and that she didn’t want to do that to her children. If that’s the case, I’m sure that Tiger will be on the receiving end of a pretty cold shoulder.

Only time will tell how this escapade will pan out for the famous golfer. Perhaps, in the end, the story will peter out and Tiger can go about his business of winning tournaments and helping children. Maybe he will even continue to get big name sponsors and endorsement deals. Who knows? Publicity can be so fickle.

One thing I do know – the public may forgive Tiger’s indiscretions, but it won’t forget.

  • Tiger Woods certainly did talk a fantastic game in his media meeting about being much more respectful to golf, but his acts spoke considerably louder than his words while he missed the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Tiger would have earned a huge amount of good will simply by doing this tournament. Arnie would certainly have handled everything that he might have that can help present Tiger in the best light, yet instead Tiger makes a decision to dismiss the legends from the sport to do his own thing. Best of luck at the Masters, Mister Woods. Congratulations towards Ernie Els, and also I am hoping you do incredibly well in Augusta.
