Just ask Rosie Ruiz. She knows all about tricks on the track. In the 1980 Boston Marathon, Rosie sure pulled a fast one over the race’s audience. Rosie started the marathon just like any other competitor, but, unlike them, had an extra stop along the way. She bopped out of the race early, moseyed her way over to the nearest subway and hopped a train across town. She re-entered the race only a mile upstream from the finish line. She crossed that line refreshed and confident in her glory.

The crowd had it’s suspicions about Rosie’s fabulous time, and one reporter even commented on how composed she was after running “26 miles”. She just laughed it off and said that she had “a lot of energy” that morning. Riiight. Rosie even met up with a reporter on the subway and walked back to the race with her. When it came to pulling this fast one, Rosie was one dedicated gal. She didn’t let little details like a fatigue-less run and eyewitnesses stop her!

But like every cheating jerk that hits the sports page, Rosie was quickly caught in her deception. She was stripped of her winning title, and the medal was given to the rightful winner, Jacqueline Gareau. Unfortunately for Jacqueline, her accomplishment will always be overshadowed by Rosie’s selfish action.
