How much is obscene? Over 175 pounds of the sticky stuff was discovered. 175 pounds. That’s practically the equivalent of having two botanical Dallas cheerleaders stuffed in the back.

But that’s not all. When Newton was arrested he was already out on bail for a similar incident. Only that time it wasn’t a truck, and it wasn’t 175 pounds of marijuana. Oh no. The earlier incident involved Newton driving a van carrying a whopping 213 pounds of sweet Mary Jane.

Since there’s really no use for that much pot other than selling it (though I suppose you could stuff mattresses), Newton pled guilty on the charge of intent to distribute. As usual, it goes to show that if you can make yourself sports famous, then no matter the crime you’ll get off lightly. By pleading guilty, Newton managed to dodge a 20 year jail sentence and a $1 million dollar fine.
